The Force-on-Force cartridge is propelled solely by the gas generator, a
rifle sized, proprietary primer which contains lead free priming
compound at a very closely monitored dosage. Upon ignition,
the rapidly expanding gases travel through an orifice whose
size is tightly controlled during manufacturing. This orifice,
amongst other factors, acts as a gate keeper governing the
amount of gases reaching the 7 grain projectile, which is then
propelled at a velocity ranging from approx. 375fps to 450fps,
depending upon the weapon system.
The remaining gases which did not travel through the orifice,
have by now expanded the internal piston of the cartridge,
generating rearward force, which propels the weapon’s slide
or bolt rearward, allowing ejection of the spent cartridge and a
fresh round to be picked up and chambered by the reciprocating
slide or bolt.
It is this forceful rearward expansion that also
gives the shooter the valuable and realistic recoil impulse,
very closely resembling a discharge of a lethal duty cartridge.
To assure a proper gas seal, the internal piston is equipped
with a rubber o-ring, which is located ahead of the crimp
groove. This crimp ensures that the piston is locked to its
sleeve and holds together even at expansion forces in excess
of 200 lbs.
The projectile consists of the cup, cap and payload, namely
glycerin based paint. The cup contains the paint and is then
topped with the cap. Upon impact, the cap is driven into the
cup, whereupon the pre-serrated petals of the cup open up,
allowing the paint to escape, imprinting a circular, bullet entry
wound simulation onto the target. Due to the glycerin base of
the paint, it will neither freeze nor melt, maintaining its cake
frosting type consistency from -30F to beyond 130F. This
paint will not dry up, enabling it to be wiped off any surface
with a moist cloth long after the training has concluded. Clothing
and protective gear used in training can be easily cleaned
by normal washing.
Due to the stable and lead free nature of its priming compound
and payload, this cartridge does not emit the noxious
fumes associated with other products, nor does it expire or
dry up with time. Since conventional propellant is not used,
gun fouling is minimal, allowing trouble free use without having
to interrupt the curriculum with constant cleaning.
An added benefit is that the training area can be swept up
after conclusion of training, with the remaining materials yielding
a price at recycling, instead of generating extra expenses
for HazMat removal.
The Force on Force Non Lethal Training Cartridge is designed to operate in weapons systems and conversion units that are
set up to be used as a maximally realistic, even identical, replica
of the actual duty firearm issued to the student during Reality
and Scenario based training. The intent is to have a weapon/
ammunition combination that is virtually indistinguishable from
the lethal tool to be used on duty, with the exception of the terminal
effect, one being for training during Reality based scenarios,
the other one for duty. By training this way, the student does not have to make the mental conversion from the training
weapon to the issue weapon, thereby training as close to
reality as is possible.
